Health Insurance or non-insurance - what is best for you and and your family
By Lynn Conaway
Everyone is familiar and comfortable with health insurance. No matter the cost per month or per trip to the doctor (or even the dentist or other professional), it puts most people's minds at ease knowing they have insurance for the "what if". But lateley the premiums are going up, deductibles are going up, the copays are going up, what is being covered is going down and thousands, if not millions of people are left with huge medical bills that push them into bankruptcy.
This is not meant to put a bad word about insurance, unfortunately, it is just the way it is. I heard recently that a family of four is paying about $1200 per month just for medical insurance and the copay is now $80. The doctor visit this person recently had was only $75. I'm not saying they are all this way, but it seems to be where things are headed. Dental and Vision are not included in this and the chiropractic benefits are limited.
Maybe it is time to look for alternatives, they are out there. Low cost programs that are not insurance, but are significantly less per month and allow the savings to more than just married people or biological or legally adopted children. If you keep thinking to yourself, there has to be something better, then do some research. If insurance is your best option, then make sure you get the plan that best fits your needs and your budget. If one of the alternatives is best, check it out and make sure it will take care of your needs.
In the end it is your decision to determine the best way to save you and your household money. If there was something that was great for everyone, there would only be one thing out there. But there are hundreds of options out there because they are all different - good or bad. Research and check things out. You may surprised at what you can find.
