Marketing Only Takes Five Minutes a Day!
By Jill Roundy
Most business owners don't really know where to even begin when t comes to marketing their own business. They know their business but to market that business takes a whole different skill set.
My suggestion is really a simple start. I have found that most businesses delay any marketing because they feel overwhelmed, there is too much to do and they really just don't know where to begin. Also, to hire a company at this stage is scary because a new growing business needs to watch every penny spent.
There are a few key areas that can make a difference to your business, of course each business is unique in some way but most are selling a product or selling a service.
Having a website is a must for most businesses. There are free sites out there but assuming you already have a basic site then my suggestion is to list your company information on every directory you can find. If you were to take five minutes a day you could easily list your business for free to several sites a day this would turn into 10-15 sites a week and around sixty sites a month, not bad for a start.
What is a directory? Basically a directory is a website that lists information about different businesses in the category their business is in. For example, all major search engines, Google, AOL, etc have directories you can list your company in for free. Another easy way to find directories is to do a search for your business and see where your competition shows up, many of them will be listed in directories, look at the link and go there and submit your company. Some directories will want to charge you to list your company--start with all the free sites first.
Just a few thoughts, I hope it gives a few of you a start.....Happy Marketing!
