National Health Care Update
By Doug Lewin
Did anyone catch the Health Care Summit last week? Impressive? I'm just not sure. While both sides made fantastic points on why there proposal is better, I wasn't convinced that anything happened. It was like a movie with no ending. Kind of unsatisfying, to be quite honest. However, there was a point where I was on board with what was being said. The topic of conversation was about "HSA" and "Catastrophic Plans". It was said that the American's paying for these types of plans are being the most "responsible" with their health care dollars. I love it!! I agree 100%!! These types of plans, especially HSA's, let the insured have the "power". People these days are always worried about having physician office visits, when the whole purpose of health insurance is protection. With an HSA, charges are controlled by the client, not the insurance company. The list of qualified expenses is long. The best part all,...the whole thing is a write-off!!! Pay attention all you business owners and self-employed out there! If you want to have more deductions at the end of the year, why not use your health benefits. Stop thinking about health insurance as a bill, and start using it as a business tool. It's a monthly expense, just like all overhead. It is operating cost. We are paying for it, time to take advantage of it.
