Savor the Flavor of Innocence
By Dorothy M Neddermeyer, Ph.D.
Reconnecting to your innocence; that part of your Self that is wholesome, unsuspecting, good hearted, compassionate, empathic and sensitive with childlike wonder allows you to experience the beauty of the present. Many people become bitter and resentful about life. You can avoid this trap by giving your Self permission to engage in activities that allow you to open up to the freedom that comes from being your uninhibited and pure innocent Self.
Too often people focus their lives around responsibilities and obligations. Delving into your inner Self gives you a chance to experience life at its most rewarding moments. Children are usually present in the moment and are able to feel every sensation—good or bad—as it arises. When you are in the moment you will feel your body sensations, you will notice the difference between feeling your Self from living in your mind or being open to the wonders of experiences in the moment. Indulge your Self as a child would; and you will reap the joy that comes from truly feeling life from the inside out rather than from the outside in.
When you engage in fun activities, avoid any thoughts or concerns about the past or future. Keep your thoughts solidly focused on the moment. If you notice you allowed your mind to wander; take a deep breath and anchor your thoughts on the present. You will find that when you are solidly focused on the activity at hand, your mind is less apt to wander off into the past or the future. When you are focused on the moment you create a harmonious balance between your mind, body, soul and spirit. Being in the moment creates a sense of empowerment, strength, courage and self-confidence. ###
