Simple Steps to Manage Your Day
By Cheryl Cullison
Do you often feel like you have too much to do and not enough time to get everything done? I know I have felt this way many times. There is so much to do these days, between balancing work, family, and taking care of your home. It is no wonder why so many people are stressed and tired. Sometimes it would be so nice to have more hours in the day to finish everything that needs to be completed. Unfortunately, I believe that our 24 hour days are not going to get any longer. Since we will not have more time in the day we can take some steps to manage the time we do have. Listed below are a few ideas.
• Write it down. It can be difficult to remember everything you need to accomplish during the day. If you do not write down what you need to get done then you may get side tracked and forget. Then at the end of the day you may wonder if you accomplished anything at all. One of the best ways to keep track of what you need to do is to invest in a day planner, calendar or notebook. This is a great way to keep track of everything you need to do. It is also a great way to prioritize what you need to accomplish each day.
• Prepare meals ahead of time. We all need to eat. I have learned that skipping meals or eating a lot of processed or fast food can drain people’s energy. If you are running on low energy then it may be very difficult to conquer the things you need to do. One way to help you stay on track when it comes to eating is to make too much food. What I mean by that is to set aside some time to prepare some home cooked meals and make too much. You can then divide them up, freeze the ones that can be frozen, and save them for the days when you may not have a lot of time to cook.
• Ask for help. It can become overwhelming to take on everything by yourself. There are times you may need to ask your spouse or another family member to help you around the house. Putting together a list of what needs to be taken care of and then assigning certain tasks to age appropriate members of the family is one way to help you get things done around your home. Another idea is hiring a company to clean your home, help you organize your home or office, or assist you with your work. It is a good idea to check them out before you hire them to make sure they are a good, honest and reliable company.
Managing your time does not need to be challenging. Taking simple steps to organize your agenda, planning ahead and asking for help may be just what you need to get more accomplished so you do not feel stressed and overwhelmed.
