Tax Tips: How to Record Your Mileage for the Year

If you have to deduct mileage for the business use of your automobile, you have to have a mileage log. Below are some techniques to make it easier to log your miles.
Use an App You can download a free app called, Track My Mileage. This will allow you to enter your mileage information after each drive using your smart phones.
Use a log and keep it in your car
If you have an employee that drives your truck without you, you can leave a paper form mileage log in the glove compartment with a pen. Before and after each drive, record your mileage.
Service Order Method
If you use a service order form, list your beginning odometer and ending odometer on every service order form.
Use your calendar to recreate your log
If you missed logging in your mileage for a while, don't worry. You can use your calendar and recreate the dates you missed.
