Video Surveillance
By John Feeney
An alarming number of the prospects/clients I meet on daily basis that have Video Surveillance don't want to admit they really don't know all the functions of their system. Like burning a copy of an event. Of course we're motivated when a event takes place but why wait till then?
Getting more use (ROI) out your video system investment besides the standard Security deterent, requires little effort on your part. Testing your equipment or more to point testing yourself, should be done on a regular basis. Like most things when we wait for the "curcial moment" more surprises are not needed.
1: if your system is still VCR (tape based) consider moving up to a DVR. Most units today come with some type of CD-RW/DVR/USB to download content.
2: if the camera's view is scratchy / out of focus / or just not clear, you might start with moving the location of the camera (remember 60ft is the key distance) with older camera's this can be less..Color is now an affordable option.
3: if your monitoring screen is the classic "BOX", LCD's are a good option
4: Do you have remote access? if so, can local law enforcement partner with you for access when that "moment" occurs? {they have mobile units to access your camera prior to arriving [First Responder]}
5: Did you ever consider using the Video content as marketing material?
{this last point, for those that just don't think it's needed in their business..}
We have an enbedded nature about Security, once it's done we shouldn't have to worry about it. Nothing could be further from the truth.
