Answer: Before the house is on the market
Explanation: If you're going to hire to a stager, it's best to have that done during a COMING SOON listing. A COMING SOON listing gives a Seller up to 21 to get their home ready for showings while allowing their agent to promote and market the property. Showings are not allowed during a COMING SOON listing but this type of listing can be very effective by creating anticipation.

Answer: Before the house is on the market
Explanation: Most homeowners like the way their homes look and forget that when we stage it needs to look like a home that anyone could live in and not just them. When we stage we clean the slate as much as possible at their home so that the prospective buyer can visualize their selves living there. Most personal items are put away and a fresh approach to the look of their home is brought in with new decor and sometimes furnishing by the staging designer and crew.

Poppin' Properties
Answer: Not sure
Explanation: As part of the service that I offer to my Sellers, I am able to offer many suggestions on how to stage your home yourself. You only get one chance to make a good first impression. Many times it is just de-cluttering/un-personalizing your home so that the potential buyers can get a visual of their personal belongings in your home. If your storage/closet space is minimal, remove items so that they appear to be larger. Make sure that your home is clean. Even if it is somewhat dated, clean goes a long way. Bathrooms and kitchens seem to get the most scrutiny from buyers, as these rooms are the most costly to update. Make sure bath tubs, sinks, and toilets are clean. Replace any missing/discolored caulk/grout. Purchase an inexpensive shower curtain/rug. Make sure kitchen sinks are clean with fresh caulk. If any faucet are leaking, repair them. Declutter counter tops and leave just a few staging items. (i.e. a candle, fresh towel...). Create a welcoming entrance at the doorway before they enter your home with seasonal appropriate items (a few small pots of flowers, holiday decor, etc.). Make sure your home is free of smoke and pet odors. In the event that the home needs a considerable amount of work to get it ready to sell, I would suggest having a stager come in prior to listing it. Again....you only get one chance to make a good, first impression. You want to have the best pictures possible on the MLS and have your home looking its best as soon as it hits the market.
Real Living Kee Realty
ProMatcher
Answer: Before the house is on the market
Explanation: In most home selling situations, a home shows better with furniture. Staring at a ceiling, floor and four empty walls make it hard for buyers to visualize their own belongings in the home. If buyers can't picture themselves living there, they are not likely to buy it. Home staging can mean the difference between a sold or expired listing. Staging often brings a higher price for the home; some stagers estimate sellers make seven to 10% more when a home is staged. It doesn't really cost to stage, it pays. Staging a living room, as with any other room in the house, is done to evoke emotions because buyers need to fall in love with the home. They buy on emotion, not logic.

ProMatcher
Answer: Before the house is on the market
Explanation: It is better to hire a stager prior to listing your home so that it will be show ready from the first moment it gets on the listing service. It also means that realtors often bring a series of other realtors to look at their new listings and those people will see your home at its best and hopefully recommend a showing to their clients. It is possible to stage after the home has been listed and if that is done I strongly recommend that you take the home off the market for a few days and then re-launch it as a new listing to get maximum exposure. So the simple answer to the question is you can do either , before or after but it is better to stage before you go on the market.

You do not want the advantages of your home overlooked and left up to the buyer’s imagination. Explanation: You list the home first and have your Realtor recommend the best home stager for your type of home. I've seen home stagers make disastrous changes to a listing that would fit the trend in other locations or other types of homes, but simply do not flow with the location and style of the home being sold. Realtors provide a plethora of information, from good movers, to good contractors, to good attorneys and yes, good stagers. Trust your Realtor to provide this information for you. If you do not trust your current Realtor / Agent to provide such vital information, then perhaps you should consider hiring a different Realtor (George L. Rosario).
