Sharratt Design takes into consideration the best way to locate a home on a site to take advantage of the sun angle, saving vegetation, and how best to capture and direct rainwater. Our projects use optimized energy efficient equipment along with being very well insulated and ventilated. We have worked with clients who want to do geo-thermal and/ or solar as well as choosing low-emitting environmentally friendly materials. We strongly believe in recycle/reuse, using natural materials that are locally created and accessible, getting the most accomplished with the least environmental cost. We do not even kill bugs inside our home. We capture bugs and release them outside where they belong.

What would you like your customers to know about your company?

Our work ranges from very small remodeling projects to very large new construction projects. We design very traditional homes to very contemporary homes and everything in between. We believe in the right design solution for each one of our clients by listening to our clients' wants and needs. We provide an interactive design process where in face-to-face meetings, the design process will begin by sketching ideas in front of the client and then the client can provide additional feedback and direction for further design ideas. As the design progresses into CAD drawings, we will sketch over plans and elevations per our client's comments or requests. As the design progresses in subsequent meetings, Sharratt Design uses a 3d software for clients to more easily visualize what their project will look like from any angle.

Clients will typically ask how long it will take for the design of their project from the initial meeting until the start of construction. Although it depends on the size and scope of their project, we typically tell clients it will take between 2 months and a year.

Our clients who are physically active wanted to build an indoor pickleball court with a 20' tall ceiling. The location and size of this space greatly directed how the other spaces in the home were designed. We also worked to capture the rainwater from the roof and direct it to an underground infiltration trench which captured the site runoff and reduced the effective hardcover on the site.

With over 30 years of experience designing custom homes, we work across the country on projects just like yours. Located just west of the Twin Cities, in Excelsior near Lake Minnetonka, Sharratt Design & Company is an architectural practice dedicated to creating signature work by expressing our clients' character, lifestyles, and spirit on each and every project. We design new and remodeled single-family homes, cabins and lofts, as well as assisted living facilities, commercial projects, office spaces, restaurants, and multi-family homes and communities. Each of you brings your own perspective, style and experiences to the design process; so working collaboratively with you, every project we design is unique. Our designs blend the influences of the project's climate, site and budget; and must be coaxed through the planning and zoning requirements of each community. This collaborative, custom approach to design leads us to work in many styles. We strive to create architecture that transcends style; buildings with integrity that express each client's signature, and that integrate seamlessly with their surrounding natural environments.
