What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a company like yours?

GUTTER CLEANING:
Watch out for companies that charge exorbitant flat cleaning rates, that don't allow for easier cleaning jobs. Be sure to ask if they will clear the downspouts as well (one of the most important parts of the job, but takes more time so often gets overlooked), and if they will be cleaning up any mess they make afterward (probably the biggest complaint we hear about the industry -- our philosophy is to leave your place cleaner than we found it!)
GUTTER GUARDS:
There are three big things to watch out for here:
1) There is a nationwide company that offers effective gutter guards (when installed correctly), but they spend enormous amounts of money on print and TV advertising -- which of course are costs that get passed on to the consumer. In addition, they don't have a standard price; they use on site sales people that are paid by however much they can convince you to pay over a set base price. I've seen quotes that break down to $40 a foot (we typically charge $7).
2) Beware of ineffective gutter guards that will still leave you needing to clean your gutters once a year -- but now you have to deal with the gutter guards in the way! There is a very common black expanded mesh metal guard in our area that is very commonly installed. They do keep out the bigger leaves, just know that you'll still have to clean them once a year.
3) Beware of the cheap vinyl gutter guards from the big box stores. They look good out of the box, are fairly inexpensive, and fairly easy to install; however, know that particularly in a sunny, high temperature area like California's North Valley where we are, they typically get destroyed within a couple of years and become virtually useless. They are also not fire proof, which is a big deal in our area as well.

How We Charge For Our Services
|
Gutter Cleaning
- $0.65 to $1.00 per linear foot - $80.00 to $250.00 per cleaning Unlike most other gutter cleaners we've seen, we don't believe in a strict price per foot when it come to cleaning, for the simple reason that there is a huge variation in cleaning difficulty depending on what's in your gutters, how long it's been there, what kind of roof you have, etc. Charging a standard flat rate per foot leaves no option but to overcharge on the easy jobs.
|
Gutter Guards and Covers - Install or Replace
- $5.00 to $7.00 per linear foot Unlike gutter cleaning, most houses can be quoted on a per foot basis (after any cleaning needed). Almost all guards can be installed on the "low end" of cost, in rare cases an extra fee may be charged for difficult circumstances. We believe most gutter guards out there are questionable in effectiveness, are way overpriced, and often make the inevitable maintenance even more difficult. Our gutter guard system goes a long way toward solving all of those problems.
