Typically we advise individuals how to protect their families net worth through liability insurance. I had a client about 2 years ago that hosted a summer pool party at the house. One of the teenagers in attendance was carrying some boxes of soda out for the party, and slipped next to the pool. He ended up hitting his head on the edge of the pool, and suffered a brain injury with medical bills over $2.5 million. The benefit to having a proper insurance advisor, is the client and myself already had a plan in place for something like this. We setup the proper home insurance policy, plus an excess liability policy and everything was covered by insurance. My client didn't risk losing his home, and was able to protect his family.
