What is a sump pump?
A sump pump is a device that is used to remove unwanted water from the lowest level of a home or building. Sump pumps are commonly installed to prevent basement flooding. When the sump pump basin fills with water, a switch is activated and the pump is able to direct water away from the home's foundation before any flooding occurs. The water is typically pumped through a subsurface pipe to a ground level location where the water can drain away and not cause damage.
